Muffin
Sometimes, our rehoming service does more than help a beloved pet find a second forever home after losing their beloved human. It also brings animals into the lives of people who need them just as much.
When Muffin’s senior dad could no longer care for her, she was in need of a second forever home. His niece stepped up to help find a home for Muffin and contacted My Grandfather’s Cat.
The niece began working with our Adoption Coordinator, Nicole, to find a second forever home for Muffin. Her adorable fluff was irresistible and applications began to come in. After being interviewed by Nicole and the niece, they chose Lorraine to adopt her.
In the last few years, Lorraine’s life had many changes. Her beloved dog and cat had both passed away and her husband had moved into long-term care. Although her husband was only a 15 minute walk away and she visited daily, she found her home quiet and decided to adopt a cat to bring her companionship.
When she saw Muffin’s post, she immediately applied. When she found out she was chosen as Muffin’s second forever family, she was thrilled. The niece and Lorraine planned for Muffin to move just a few days later.
On Tuesday, Muffin moved in with Lorraine and settled in immediately. On the same day, Lorraine received the heartbreaking news that her husband was being moved to palliative care. Muffin was by her side as she received the news, and was there to comfort her when her husband passed away just two days later.
“I didn’t know last Tuesday when Muffin came to me that my husband, who was in long-term care, would begin palliative care that evening. He slipped away on Thursday. Muffin is a blessing for me. At night she has started sleeping in the bend of my leg with her head on me.”
Muffin has settled in and is thriving with Lorraine, and unbenounst to both of them, Muffin is there to comfort her as she grieves and look to the next chapter of her life.
“Muffin is much loved and I am so grateful that I was chosen to be her mom. Muffin turned thirteen on Tuesday. We both have lots of good years in us yet! Thank you again.”
