Cuddles and Joey
When a senior in northern British Columbia suddenly passed away, her beloved cats, Cuddles and Joey, were in need of a second forever home. Her son and daughter both wanted to take them in, but they didn’t get along with the other animals in their homes, so the son built them a shelter in an outdoor catio.
This was only a temporary solution while they contacted local shelters, but no one was able to help. As the summer months drew to an end, they were a loss on what to do. That’s when they contacted My Grandfather’s Cat.
They began working with our volunteer, Alex, to find Cuddles and Joey a second forever home, but in rural northern BC, no applications came in. As the MGC team was working on a new strategy to help reach potential adopters, one application came in — a couple named Johanna and Adriano.
Alex interviewed the couple, and the family agreed they were the perfect fit, but there was just one problem — they lived more than 13 hours away in Burnaby, BC. Johanna spoke with the daughter, and they came up with a plan to meet in the middle.
The next week, Johanna and Adriano drove eight hours to Prince George and spent the night in a hotel. The next morning, the daughter tucked Cuddles and Joey into a large crate with fluffy blankets and a litter box and drove five hours to meet them. Then, Johanna, Adriano, Cuddles and Joey drove the eight hours back to Burnaby.
“They happily cuddled in the crate. When we left, the howling was non-stop, but they relaxed after a churro. We stopped at times to rest and for the kids to stretch their legs. Thank you for the honour of becoming Joey and Cuddles’ extended second family.”
Now, two weeks later, Cuddles and Joey are thriving in their second forever home. Thank you to this extraordinary couple and daughter who went above and beyond to give a loving second forever home to two sweet cats.
