Mali and Cali

When their senior human passed away, her two beloved cats, Mali and Cali, were in need of a second forever home. As they were located in northern British Columbia in Fort St. James, there were very few resources to help find them a new home. That’s when someone suggested the family contact My Grandfather’s Cat.

They began working with our volunteer Adoption Coordinator, Alex, to find them a loving second forever home, but their northern location brought in no applications, that is until weeks later when one application came in from the perfect adopters, Jim and Angela — the only problem was they were located in Victoria, which is 14 hours away.

Alex decided to still interview the couple, and after the family spoke to them, they agreed they were the perfect fit. The only thing that stood between Mali and Cali and the perfect adopters was the challenge of getting them 14 hours to their new home.

So, Alex worked with the adopters and the family to come up with a plan. The family was able to drive them 5 hours to 100 Mile House, and the adopters could take make the 3 hour trip by ferry into Vancouver. Now, she just had to figure out how to transport them the 6 hours in between, so she decided to drive them herself.

With the support of the MGC team, Alex and her husband drove the 6 hours from Vancouver to 100 Mile House, met the family to pick up Mali and Cali, and drove them 6 hours back to meet Jim and Angela in Vancouver. After their 11 hour drive, Mali and Cali spent the night with Jim and Angela at a friends house. The next day, the new family of four made the 3 hour trip, including a ferry ride, to their home in Victoria.

After the trip of a lifetime, it only took 48 hours for Mali and Cali to settle into their second forever home.

“Mali and Cali send their love. They are settling in really well and adjusting to the new sights, smells and sounds. They have such adorable little personalities. We can tell they came from a really nurturing home full of love. Jim and I feel so very lucky.”

Thank you to the adopters, the family and our incredible volunteer, Alex, for going above and beyond for Mali and Cali. Thanks to the generosity of this community, MGC was able to cover all of Alex’s cost to ensure Mali and Cali made it to their second forever home.
