Pumpkin and Buster

In May, a senior unexpectedly passed away in his home. For many days after he passed, he was not alone. His two beloved senior cats, Pumpkin and Buster, were by his side. A quiet reminder of the love they shared.

When emergency responders arrived almost two weeks later, they took Pumpkin and Buster to the local Human Society. While dehydrated and hungry, they were both okay. As soon as his daughters were contacted, they rushed to pick up Pumpkin and Buster and took them to their home – but this is only a temporary solution.

The daughters and their loved ones began contacting local organizations to help, but with two cats who are 14 and 15 years old, bonded and not fixed, it was difficult for any small organization to help. While MGC doesn’t typically take on adoptables that are not already fixed, this situation broke our hearts and we decided to do everything we can do to help.

As they have had many litters of kittens over the years and which could now be detrimental to their health, our first priority is to have them fixed. Their vet checks, senior bloodwork, and the surgeries were $2,500, which was covered by MGC thanks to the generosity of this community.

Once they recovered, we began looking for their second forever home. After interviewing applicants and doing a meet and greet, Diane was chosen to be their second forever family. Now, six months later, Pumpkin and Buster have settled into their home, where they are loved and cherished by their new mom.

“I felt compelled to help them. Now we are all good together, with Pumpkin cuddling on me and Buster doing the same on my side.”
