Maggie Mae and Tyki

Throughout his life, a senior gentleman in Ponoka, Alberta, was dedicated to caring for cats. Over the years, he would take in kittens and stray cats he met, going above and beyond for each animal he met, socializing them and caring for their every need.

When he suddenly passed away, his wife struggled deeply to care for his beloved cats, Maggie Mae and Tyki. So, with the help of her daughter, she contacted My Grandfather’s Cat to find them a second forever home. The wife and daughter began working with our volunteer, Melanie, to find them a second forever home.

Meanwhile, a couple named Liza and De Ville in Victoria, British Columbia, had fallen in love with the work of MGC and had decided to adopt through us. When they saw Maggie Mae and Tyki’s post, they sent in an application. While they were the perfect applicant, there was only one problem, they were a 12 hour drive away. That’s when Liza said “Oh, we will just fly to pick them up.”

While MGC always has the goal of finding second forever homes within a few hours of the current home to avoid unnecessary stress on our adoptables, the decision is always up to the family. After speaking with Liza and De Ville, the daughter agreed that it was worth a flight for the girls to be with this incredible couple who wanted to go above and beyond for them — just like her dad would have.

Just like that, a plan came together. Liza and De Ville booked same day round trip flights from Victoria to Edmonton. That morning, when the couple got on their flight, the daughter and her mom drove the girls to the Edmonton airport to meet them when their flight landed. Then, Liza and De Ville met their two new best friends, and swiftly went through security to catch their flight back. By the end of the day on Saturday, the new family had safety made it home.

Maggie Mae and Tyki did incredible on their flight, and settled in immediately to their second forever home. They are already soaking up all the love and pets, and are eager to meet their new cat sibling, Oreo.
