Teddy

When a senior lady in Vancouver unexpectedly began experiencing health concerns, she started struggling to care for herself and her beloved dog, Teddy. When she made the difficult decision that she needed to move into an assisted living facility, she was worried about what would happen to her best friend.

Without friends or family around her, she reached out to the person she trusted the most — her veterinarian. After learning about the situation, the veterinarian recommended she contact My Grandfather’s Cat.

The senior began working with our volunteer, Melanie, to find a second forever home for Teddy in Vancouver, BC. As soon as our community saw Teddy’s sweet face, applications began coming in. After interviewing many families, the senior chose Angie and Drew to be Teddy’s second forever home.

She was able to meet the couple, and Teddy even visited his new home before the transition. They all decided on an open adoption, where the couple would give the senior lady regular updates on Teddy. When Teddy moved to his second forever home, the senior was confident he was going to be safe, comfortable and loved.

Now, two months later, Teddy has settled in and is thriving with his second forever family.

“Teddy is doing great. He eats and sleeps well right from the start. We have a routine to go for walks 4x a day. He acts like he’s always lived in our home. I think that one visit here beforehand was a really good thing to do. Teddy is a cute little guy. He happy wagging his tail and looks forward to walks.”

As promised, Angie and Drew keep in touch with the senior and provide her with regular updates on Teddy. They even gifted her a pillow with Teddy’s photo on it for Christmas.
