Phantom and Coco

When a senior lady suffered a severe brain injury, she wasn’t able to live alone. She moved in with her son and daughter-in-law so they could care for her, but she quickly showed signs of severe allergies to their two cats, 16-year-old Phantom and 8-year-old Coco.

The family tried many, many solutions, but the space was simply too small for the senior to not be near Phantom and Coco. Her son struggled deeply with the thought of surrendering his beloved cats to a shelter, so he contacted family and friends to see if they were able to take them in. That’s when a cousin suggested contacting My Grandfather’s Cat to see if we could help.

He took time to research MGC and after many months, he came to terms with the heartbreaking decision that he had to rehome Phantom and Coco. After speaking to our founder, Angela, and adoption volunteer, Vivian, he felt okay with looking for a second forever home for them through MGC, but only if it was the right person.

Phantom and Coco’s profile went up on our social the next week, and one applicant came in, a sweet lady named Darlene. Her kindness and willingness to open to heart and home to these loving cats gave the son and daughter-in-law the comfort they needed, and they chose her to be Phantom and Coco’s second forever family.

It took a couple weeks, but Phantom and Coco have settled in and are thriving with Darlene.

“Phanny and Coco are settling in great, and Phanny is really showing off her sweet and bossy personality. Coco is a little sweetheart and getting more comfy as well.”

They decided on an open adoption, where Darlene gives the son and daughter-in-law regular updates, giving them comfort that their beloved cats are happy and thriving.
