Thomas

When his senior human passed away, sweet Thomas was in need of a second forever home. Her friend temporarily cared for him and contacted My Grandfather’s Cat.

When we began working with the friend, he mentioned he was quite uncertain about his age. So, MGC arranged a mobile vet to pop by and evaluate his age. That’s when the mobile vet discovered that Thomas has a cyst on his neck.

MGC worked to arrange a vet appointment for Thomas, and helped the friend Uber back and forth. During the appointment, the veterinarian determined the cyst, and two infected teeth needed to be removed. The cost was going to be upwards of $4,000.

While we always do our best to cover emergency veterinarian experiences for our adoptables, this was quite unexpected. We asked our community if they’d like to help, and within one day, we raised enough to cover Thomas’ entire surgery.

With a surgical plan and the funds in place, we began looking for a second forever home for Thomas. Our volunteer, Alex, interviewed each applicant and the seniors’ friend chose Evelyn to be his second forever family.

Evelyn gave Thomas a chance to settle in before arranging his surgery two weeks later. Thomas’ surgery went off without a hitch — he didn’t even mind wearing a baby onesie. The vet sent the cyst to be tested and it turned out it wasn’t a cyst, but cancer. Thankfully, they had clean margins and Thomas is now cancer-free. Thomas and Evelyn have already become the best of friends, and she plans to love him for the rest of his life.

Thank you to Winston, Dr. Kayla Hyland, Alex, Becky from Trooper Pet, Mariposa Veterinary Hospital, Evelyn, and each and every person who donated to support Thomas’ care. We couldn’t have done this without you.
