Winnie
Winnie and her human were soulmates and the love of each other’s lives. When her human suddenly and tragically passed away, Winnie stayed by her side until they were both found days later. As soon as her human’s best friend heard the news, she immediately went and found a temporary spot for Winnie to stay, but she only had a week to find her a loving home. That’s when she contacted My Grandfather’s Cat.
She began working with our volunteer, Kate, to urgently find a second forever home for Winnie in Kitchener, Ontario. Kate worked quickly, and the next day, Winnie’s profile was posted to our community. Kate and the best friend interviewed the four applicants and chose Jeannine to be Winnie’s second forever family.
After the traumatic couple of weeks Winnie had experienced, Jeannine knew it wouldn’t be an easy transition for Winnie. They made slow progress over the next six weeks, until Jeannine had to leave for 10 days. She was worried about the impact her trip would have on Winnie’s progress, but much to her surprise, it brought them closer together.
“We finally had a breakthrough the middle of last week! Quite frankly, I was afraid the time away would have brought us several steps backwards, but in fact, I’m delighted to report, it drew us closer together! We still have a way to go, but I can now clearly see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
