Pepper

When a senior in Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, passed away, she left behind her beloved cat, Pepper. She was only three years old, and her human’s daughter, Patty, didn’t have to heart to put her into a shelter. So, she took her into her home.

After a few months, Pepper simply wasn’t getting along with the other cats in the home, so much so they were keeping her the bathroom until they could find her a home. Then, one evening, Patty was scrolling on Facebook and saw her friend shared a post about a new charity based in Nova Scotia called My Grandfather’s Cat. She read our mission and it seemed like exactly what she needed to find a home for Pepper. So, she sent an email to our founder, Angela.

My Grandfather’s Cat had only been operational for a week when Angela received an email from Patty hoping to rehome Pepper. While Angela was nervous, and the process was a little bumpy, she wrote Pepper’s profile and posted it on our social media, just 9 days after the charity had launched.

To Angela’s surprise couple applications came in the same day, and Angela interviewed each one. After Patty interviewed each applicant, she chose a lady named Heather to adopt Pepper. A few days later, Patty took Pepper was in her second forever home, and My Grandfather’s Cat had completed their very first adoption.

When Patty called Angela to tell her the news, Angela was driving home from an adventure with grandfather’s cat, Mackenzie. She pulled over on the side of the road, spoke to Patty, and cried. In that moment, she realized this idea for My Grandfather’s Cat was going to work. Beside her, Mackenzie sat in the passengers seat, unaware of the charity she had inspired.

Now, five years later, Pepper has celebrated her 8th birthday and continues to thrive in her second forever home with Heather.

“She is such a beautiful cat. She has a very sweet nature. We just love her.”

Thank you to Patty, Heather and Pepper for being the first to trust My Grandfather’s Cat and to believe in the work we do. We are so grateful for you.
