Tulip, Aster and Daisy

When a senior lady on Vancouver Island was diagnosed with ALS, she reached out to My Grandfather’s Cat, hoping she could find a second forever home for her three beloved pets — Tulip, Aster and Daisy.

She began working with our volunteer, Melanie, to find them a second forever home. The trio was bonded, and the senior was hoping they could stay together. MGC and the senior were hopeful, but knew that it would be very difficult to find them a home together. With that, the search was on.

MGC started by sharing the trio, who by then were nicknamed The Flowers, on our social channels. A few weeks passed, and no applications came in. As the senior’s ALS progressed, we realized we had to do more.

The next month, we created a massive outreach campaign. We launched reels, ads, and even reached out to the local media. With the help of our friends at The Vancouver Sun, we received over 30 inquiries for these sweet Flowers. Most importantly, six families were willing to adopt all three together.

The senior interviewed each applicant and held meet-and-greets, and chose Michelle and her fiancé, Darren to be their second forever family. The senior asked if she could keep the trio until her ALS made it no longer possible to care for them, and the couple happily agreed.

For the next year, the couple visited the senior and the flowers every other month. They were able to build a deep bond and friendship, and when the senior decided it was time, she chose MAID. She passing away with her three best friends beside her, with the comfort of knowing her flowers were going to be safe and loved with a couple she considered family.

After their mom passed, Tulip, Aster and Daisy moved in with Michelle and Darren. As they were already familiar with the couple, they settled in immediately and are thriving.
